Ray Ward was born in Glasgow in 1916. Six months after the outbreak of the Second World War, he joined the Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders. After the war, he was a semi-professional singer, freelance writer, and school teacher in Glasgow.
Trevor Royle is a broadcaster and author specialising in the history of war and empire. His most recent books include Patton: Old Blood and Guts and Civil War: The Wars of the Three Kingdoms 1638-1660. He is an associate editor of the Sunday Herald and a Fellow of the Royal Society of Edinburgh.
Robin Ward is an architecture critic, writer and graphic designer who was born and raised in Glasgow. He studied at Glasgow School of Art and subsequently worked for the BBC in London, and in Canada, where he was architecture critic for the Vancouver Sun. He has written a number of books, including Some City Glasgow, The Spirit of Glasgow, and co-wrote Exploring Bangkok.
